Product Recalls & Your Children

In preparation for my new little blessing I'd been making a list of what we already have and what we need to buy. Well, I also decided to take a trip to the government's recall website and I was surprised to learn that TWO things we had for Hass-man was now being recalled!

One was his crib/toddler bed (Simplicity Drop Side Cribs) which thank goodness he never really slept in since we co-sleep most times. This is why it was being recalled: The crib’s plastic hardware can break or deform, causing the drop side to detach. When the drop side detaches, it creates space between the drop side and the crib mattress. Infants and toddlers can roll into this space and become entrapped which can lead to suffocation.

The second item was his high-chair (Evenflo Envision™ High Chairs) due to: Recline fasteners and metal screws on both sides of the high chair can loosen and fall out, allowing the seatback to detach or recline unexpectedly. Children can fall backwards or fall out of the high chair and suffer bumps and bruises to the head, abrasions, cuts and bruises. Detached hardware also poses a choking hazard to children.

To think about the potential harm that could have come to the Hass-man or Na'im through these faulty products is horrifying, so I just wanted to make sure all moms and dads periodically check the US Government's Recall Database for products they own.

  1. SO scary! I was always obsessed with the whole crib thing - making sure it was secure. Both of mine are in little toddler style beds now. It's so sad to think of babies getting stuck like that when it could have been avoided. Glad you are sharing it here!
